Transparent methodology

What the result includes—and what it does not

Updated SolveKit editorial review — browser image processing QA

Built for people preparing avatars, forum signatures and legacy-system uploads that still enforce a 10–20 KB image cap.

Calculation method

  1. 1Each JPG, PNG, or WebP image is decoded locally and redrawn to a fresh browser canvas; no file leaves the device.
  2. 2The compressor binary-searches encoder quality under the 20 KB ceiling and only reduces dimensions when quality alone cannot reach the limit.
  3. 3Results download individually or as one ZIP, with original size, final size and output dimensions reported per file.

Assumptions and limits

  • 20 KB is a maximum, not a target: simple graphics may finish far under it, detailed photographs may need strong dimension reduction.
  • At 20 KB, photographic detail is visibly reduced; this limit suits faces, icons and simple subjects better than landscapes.
  • Output is WebP or JPEG chosen by you; the new file does not carry the original EXIF metadata.

Worked example

A forum avatar under the 20 KB cap

Input: A 3 MB phone selfie, target 20 KB, JPEG output.

Output: One downloadable JPEG under 20 KB with the final dimensions shown, ready for the legacy upload form.

Frequently asked questions

Will a photo still look usable at 20 KB?

It depends on the subject. Faces and simple graphics survive well at avatar sizes; detailed landscapes lose visible detail. The tool shows the final dimensions so you can judge before uploading.

Why does my 20 KB file sometimes finish much smaller?

Because 20 KB is a ceiling. The compressor keeps the highest quality that stays under the limit, and simple images need very few bytes to do so.

Can I compress a whole folder to 20 KB each?

Yes. Drop the whole batch; every image is processed against the same 20 KB limit and results download as one ZIP.
