Marketing measurement workflow
Launch with measurement intact.
Connect campaign naming, acquisition cost, search metadata, sharing tags, schema, and redirects without mixing tracked URLs into canonical signals.
UTM parameters appear in URLs, logs, analytics, and shared links. Never put personal or confidential information in a campaign parameter.
- 1
Define one campaign naming convention
Choose lowercase names before creating any URLs. Keep source for the platform, medium for the channel type, and campaign for the shared initiative. Never place names, email addresses, or other personal data in UTM parameters.
Save the final URL and the exact source, medium, and campaign values used.
- 2
Check acquisition economics
Use clicks and spend from the same date range and account scope. Conversion rate and cost per acquisition only make sense when the conversion event and attribution model stay consistent.
Carry a target CPA that the gross profit or customer value can support.
- 3
Prepare the search result inputs
Write a descriptive title and summary for humans, then preview their likely shape. Google may rewrite title links and snippets; character counts are useful editing guides, not guaranteed display limits.
Keep the canonical URL aligned with the final page, not the UTM campaign URL.
- 4
Prepare sharing and structured data
Use absolute URLs for the page and social image. Choose structured data that matches visible page content and validate the generated JSON-LD before deployment; markup never guarantees a rich result.
Test the production URL after deployment, because crawlers cannot inspect a local preview.
- 5
Preserve tracking when URLs change
Select a permanent redirect only when the move is intended to last. Confirm query-string behavior on the target platform so campaign parameters are not silently discarded.
Test one clean URL and one URL containing query parameters before publishing the rule broadly.
Pre-publish check
Open the final HTTPS URL, verify its canonical and sharing image, run the structured-data test, follow any redirect with and without query parameters, and confirm that one test campaign appears under the intended source and medium.
