Transparent methodology

What the result includes—and what it does not

Updated SolveKit technical review — sitemap QA

Built for site owners and developers checking whether a sitemap describes clean final indexable URLs.

Calculation method

  1. 1Read sitemap declarations from robots.txt or try the conventional sitemap.xml location.
  2. 2Parse sitemap indexes and URL sets, resolve loc values and retain up to the chosen crawl limit.
  3. 3Fetch sitemap URLs and cross them with response status, noindex, canonical and general robots rules.

Assumptions and limits

  • A URL outside the sitemap can still be discovered and indexed; absence is a discovery discrepancy, not a guaranteed error.
  • The first release caps sitemap-index traversal and the report at 500 URLs to protect both sites.
  • lastmod truthfulness and image or news extension semantics are not fully verified yet.

Worked example

Sitemap left over from staging

Input: A sitemap containing 80 production URLs, 12 redirects and 20 pages still marked noindex.

Output: One grouped redirect issue and one sitemap/indexability conflict with every affected URL exportable.

How to use it

From public URL to verified release.

  1. 1Choose the release mission and declare whether the scope should be public.
  2. 2Keep the page open while respectful batches read public HTML and cross page signals.
  3. 3Export the evidence, deploy the fix, then load the project to verify the same scope.

Built for trust

Evidence without a false promise.

  • No registration or paywall before your result.
  • Only public URLs are fetched; HTML is not written into the project.
  • Ready to ship describes the checked scope; it never guarantees indexing or ranking.

Frequently asked questions

What makes an XML sitemap valid for release?

The XML must be a sitemap URL set or index with valid absolute loc values. For a clean release, listed pages should also return a final successful response and agree with robots, noindex and canonical signals.

Should redirected URLs stay in a sitemap?

A production sitemap should normally list the final canonical URLs you want discovered. Redirecting entries make the file describe an intermediate location and create avoidable crawl work.

Can a noindex page appear in a sitemap?

It can technically appear, but the signals conflict: the sitemap asks for discovery while noindex asks supporting engines not to index the page. The validator reports that contradiction for review.
