Transparent methodology
What the result includes—and what it does not
Built for eBay sellers who need period profit from the transactions eBay recorded, rather than a fee estimate for one hypothetical sale.
Calculation method
- 1The tool reads the CSV Transaction report from eBay Seller Hub and uses its Type, Net amount, order, item, payout, fee, refund, and shipping-label fields. It does not estimate eBay's rate when the report already contains an amount.
- 2Sale rows are grouped by order number. Product cost, packaging, and seller-paid shipping can be matched from a second CSV or XLSX by Custom label (SKU) or Item ID, then multiplied by the quantity on the sale row.
- 3For a multi-item order, blank continuation rows inherit the order and payout context from the preceding sale. Order-level net proceeds are allocated to products by their revenue share, or by quantity when line revenue is absent, so SKU totals still reconcile to the order.
- 4Period profit is the sum of non-payout Net amount rows minus matched product and external costs and any additional period cost you enter. Product and order views use the same reconciled rows, so their totals share one calculation.
- 5Payout IDs form a separate cash view. Where the report also includes a payout transfer row, the tool compares that amount with the linked transaction net; otherwise it labels the comparison unavailable instead of inventing a bank amount.
Assumptions and limits
- Use an eBay Payments Transaction report, not the Orders report. Column names can vary by market or report customization; Type and Net amount are required.
- Currencies are not converted. If one file contains more than one currency, the result is marked mixed and should be reviewed by currency before bookkeeping.
- Missing product costs remain zero unless you enter a fallback. Income tax, VAT or sales-tax treatment, inventory valuation, charge timing, and any expense absent from both files are not inferred.
- A separate fee row and fee columns are both visible in the fee audit, but profit is anchored to eBay's Net amount so the same fee is not subtracted from profit a second time.

Frequently asked questions
Which eBay CSV do I need for a profit report?
Download a Transaction report from Seller Hub under Payments and Reports. It needs the Type and Net amount columns; order number, Custom label, Item ID, payout fields, and fee columns make the order, product, and payout views more complete. An Orders report does not contain the payment ledger this reconciliation needs.
Does the eBay Profit Analyzer upload my sales data?
No. CSV and Excel parsing, cost matching, calculations, and exports run in your browser. The result model intentionally ignores buyer names and shipping addresses, and the anonymous usage counter receives only an operation outcome and a broad row-count bucket.
How are product costs matched to eBay sales?
Choose the SKU or Item ID column in your cost file and the unit-cost column. The tool normalizes the key, matches it to eBay's Custom label or Item ID, and multiplies the cost by quantity. Optional packaging and seller-paid shipping columns can be included in the same match.
Why can eBay net proceeds differ from sales revenue?
Sales revenue describes the item subtotal and buyer-paid shipping on sale rows. Net proceeds come from eBay's Net amount across the payment ledger, after the fees, refunds, shipping labels, credits, and adjustments present in the report. The two figures answer different questions and should not be expected to match.
Can I export the eBay profit analysis to Excel?
Yes. The download menu creates CSV, Excel, and PDF versions locally. The export includes the summary and the complete order, product, payout, and exception tables, even when the on-screen preview is capped for browser performance.
