Transparent methodology

What the result includes—and what it does not

Updated SolveKit editorial review — WooCommerce import safety QA

Built for wooCommerce stores that receive supplier price and stock files and need to update existing products without replacing catalog content.

Calculation method

  1. 1A current native WooCommerce product export is matched with the supplier CSV or Excel file by SKU or product ID. Case, spaces, dashes, and leading zeros can be normalized, and the match rate appears before rules are applied.
  2. 2Price rules support cost multiplication, a fixed addition, or true target margin. Stock can copy the supplier quantity after a safety buffer and optional maximum, while a supplier zero follows the explicit zero-stock choice.
  3. 3The generated CSV contains only ID, SKU, and the fields actually changed: Regular price, Stock, and In stock?. Rows absent from the supplier file are reported but never set to zero, and new supplier references are never created.
  4. 4A separate workbook lists changes, extreme prices, disappeared references, supplier novelties, unreadable costs, and import notes before the store file is used.

Assumptions and limits

  • The store export must come from WooCommerce's native product exporter and should be fresh. The supplier file may be CSV, TSV, TXT, or Excel.
  • WooCommerce's importer must be run with Update existing products selected. Back up the store or test a small first batch on staging before a large update.
  • Variations are matched by their own ID or SKU. The tool does not change product type, parent relationships, names, descriptions, categories, attributes, images, SEO, or publication status.
  • Missing or unreadable costs are skipped rather than treated as zero. Products absent from the supplier file remain unchanged and appear only in the review report.

Worked example

Apply the distributor's Monday price and stock file

Input: A fresh WooCommerce export with 1,800 product and variation rows plus a 2,400-row supplier workbook containing reference, cost, and quantity.

Output: A reviewed list of matched updates, disappeared and new references, a minimum WooCommerce CSV split into safe batches when necessary, and an Excel audit report.

How to use it

  1. 1Enter or paste the values requested by the tool.
  2. 2Review the input units and choose any relevant options.

Frequently asked questions

Can WooCommerce update existing products by SKU from a CSV?

Yes. WooCommerce's native product importer can update existing products using ID or SKU. SolveKit keeps both identity columns in the output and emits only matched store rows, but you must select Update existing products during import.

Will this CSV overwrite product names, images, descriptions, or SEO?

No. Those columns are deliberately absent. The update file is limited to ID, SKU, and whichever of Regular price, Stock, and In stock? you chose to change, so catalog content and publication fields are outside the operation.

What happens to a WooCommerce product missing from the supplier CSV?

It is listed as disappeared for review and receives no update row. Absence does not prove the supplier has zero stock, so the tool never silently sets missing products to zero or unpublishes them.

Does the tool update WooCommerce product variations safely?

Each native export row, including a variation, keeps its own ID and SKU. A matched variation is updated as that row; the tool does not convert simple and variable products or alter parent and attribute fields.

Are supplier costs and stock uploaded to SolveKit?

No. Parsing, matching, calculations, reports, and CSV generation run in the browser tab. The files and their commercial values are not sent to SolveKit's servers.
