Transparent methodology

What the result includes—and what it does not

Updated SolveKit editorial review — seller file engine QA

Built for sellers and bookkeepers auditing what an eBay Payments Transaction report contains before they calculate product profit or prepare a reconciliation.

Calculation method

  1. 1The parser locates the Transaction report header even when eBay places introductory rows before it, then classifies ledger rows as sales, refunds, fees, shipping labels, payouts, or other adjustments.
  2. 2Net proceeds are summed from non-payout Net amount rows. Fee totals use fee columns on sale rows and standalone fee transactions, while refunds and shipping labels remain separate audit lines.
  3. 3Orders, Custom labels, Item IDs, and payout IDs are retained for grouping. Buyer names and delivery-address fields are not copied into the analysis model.

Assumptions and limits

  • The report needs Type and Net amount. A customized export without order, item, or payout columns can still produce a ledger total but not every grouped view.
  • Fee totals are diagnostic labels; period cash and profit use Net amount as their anchor so displayed fee fields are not deducted twice.
  • Currencies are not converted, and accounting treatment for taxes, holds, reserves, disputes, and timing differences should be confirmed outside the tool.

Frequently asked questions

What does the eBay Transaction Report Analyzer check?

It totals the Net amount ledger and separates recognizable sales, refunds, shipping labels, standalone fees, payout rows, and other adjustments. It also groups available order, item, SKU, and payout identifiers and lists missing-cost or incomplete-linkage exceptions.

Can the analyzer read a customized eBay Transaction report?

Yes, provided Type and Net amount remain in the export. The parser recognizes common eBay column names and tolerates reordered columns, quoted commas, alternate CSV delimiters, UTF-8, Windows-1252, and UTF-16 files. Removing grouping fields only limits the related view.

Why does the fee total not get subtracted again from net proceeds?

eBay's Net amount is already the cash effect of the transaction row. Fee columns are shown to explain that net amount; deducting them again would double count the fee. Product and external costs are separate seller costs and are subtracted only when supplied.

Is this an eBay invoice or tax report?

No. It is a local analysis of the rows in the file you provide. It does not replace eBay statements, bank records, tax filings, or accounting advice, and it does not decide how tax, reserves, disputes, or currency conversion should be booked.
